Studio Critic — Privacy Policy

Studio Critic ("the app," "we," "us") is an iOS app that gives AI-generated critiques of your artwork. We built it to respect your privacy: there are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no ads, and we never sell your data.

The short version

• Your paintings/photos and your critiques are stored on your device.
• To generate a critique, the image and a few details (the medium; whether you asked for scores) are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce the feedback, then returned to your device.
• We don't require an account, don't run analytics or trackers, and don't use your artwork for advertising.

What the app handles

Photos and images. With your permission, the app uses your camera to photograph artwork and/or your photo library to select images. These images, your projects, and the resulting critiques are stored locally on your device. You can back them up yourself with Settings → Export.

Artwork details you provide. The medium you select and whether you want a scored or unscored critique.

Your own API key (optional). If you choose to use your own Anthropic API key, it is stored securely in the device Keychain and used only to send your critique requests. It is never sent to us and never leaves your device except to Anthropic. If you don't set one, requests go through our secure proxy (below).

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, or device identifiers, and we do not use any analytics or third-party tracking SDKs.

How your images are processed for a critique

When you request a critique, the app sends the image plus the details above to Anthropic (the AI provider), either:

• through our proxy service, which holds the API credentials on the server so no key ships in the app. The proxy forwards your request to Anthropic and does not store your images or critiques (it keeps only anonymous usage counts to cap costs and prevent abuse); or
• directly to Anthropic using your own API key, if you provided one.

Anthropic processes the content to generate your critique. Per Anthropic's API terms, content submitted through the API is not used to train their models. See Anthropic's privacy policy: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy

What we do NOT do

• No user accounts or sign-in.
• No analytics, telemetry, or third-party tracking.
• No advertising and no ad networks.
• No selling or renting of your data.
• No collection of location, contacts, or device identifiers.

Data retention and deletion

Your images, projects, and critiques live on your device. To delete them, remove them in the app or delete the app (which removes its local data). Use Settings → Export first if you want to keep a copy. The proxy retains only aggregate, non-personal usage counts (no image or critique content).

Permissions

• Camera — to photograph your artwork for critique.
• Photo Library — to choose existing images to critique.

You can change these anytime in iOS Settings. The app works with whichever you allow.

Children

Studio Critic is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
